VCI Stretch Film is an effective and easy-to-use solution for protecting metal products from corrosion during storage and transit. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to use it, ensuring maximum protection for your items, whether you’re using Hand Stretch Film or a machine-assisted solution.

    Wrapping Metal Parts

    1. Prepare the Metal Parts: Before wrapping, ensure the metal parts are clean and free of any dirt, dust, or oils. If necessary, wipe the items down with a clean cloth to remove contaminants. This will allow the VCI Stretch Film to bond more effectively with the surface.
    2. Select the Appropriate VCI Stretch Film: Select the Appropriate VCI Stretch Film: Depending on the size and shape of the item being wrapped, choose the correct width and length of VCI Stretch Film. For larger items, such as machinery components, a wider film may be necessary. When using Machine Stretch Film, wider rolls and longer lengths can be chosen to accommodate larger items and ensure efficient coverage.
    3. Start Wrapping the Item: Begin at one end of the product and start wrapping the film tightly around it. As you stretch the film, ensure that it adheres to the surface and overlaps slightly with each turn. Stretching the film ensures a snug fit and maximizes the protective barrier.
    4. Apply Multiple Layers: For added protection, particularly for larger or irregularly shaped items, apply multiple layers of VCI Stretch Film. Each additional layer enhances the protective effect and ensures that the vapor corrosion inhibitors cover all exposed surfaces.
    5. Ensure Full Coverage: Make sure to cover the entire surface area of the item, including any crevices or internal voids where moisture could accumulate. VCI Stretch Film works best when it provides continuous coverage, forming a complete barrier against moisture and contaminants.

    Sealing and Storing

    1. Seal the Film: Once the item is fully wrapped, secure the open end of the VCI Stretch Film by folding or tucking it under the last layer. If necessary, use a plastic sealing clip or tape to ensure the film stays in place. Be sure that the film is tightly sealed to prevent moisture from entering.
    2. Storage Conditions: To maintain the effectiveness of the VCI Stretch Film, store the wrapped items in a cool, dry place. Ideal storage conditions include:
      • Temperature: Keep items at or below 85°F (30°C) to avoid excessive heat, which could degrade the VCI compounds.
      • Humidity Control: Store the wrapped items in a space with low humidity. Although VCI Stretch Film is designed to protect against moisture, extreme humidity can impact the integrity of the packaging over time.
    3. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Store the wrapped items out of direct sunlight, as UV rays can cause the film to degrade more quickly. A well-ventilated, shaded area is ideal for maintaining the protective qualities of the film.

    Handling and Disposal

    1. Safe Handling: During the wrapping process, handle the VCI Stretch Film carefully to avoid damage or tearing. The film is typically stretchable, but rough handling can cause it to lose its protective effectiveness. Use gloves or wear protective gear if necessary to avoid puncturing the film with sharp objects.
    2. Environmental Considerations: Once the metal parts have been used or shipped, it’s important to properly dispose of the VCI Stretch Film. Many VCI films are recyclable and can be disposed of in standard plastic recycling bins. Always check local recycling guidelines to ensure proper disposal.
    3. Reusability: If the VCI Stretch Film remains intact and the protective vapor layer is still active, it can often be reused. This is especially useful in industries with large-scale storage or transportation needs. Simply rewrap items as needed, ensuring the film still offers a tight seal.
    4. Eco-Friendly Options: Look for VCI Stretch Film products that are specifically designed to be environmentally friendly. Many manufacturers produce films that are free of harmful chemicals and made from recyclable materials, making them a sustainable choice for rust protection.
